Robin Roy – Vice President, Projects & Policy

Robin Roy – Vice President, Projects & PolicyDr. Roy has been motivated for over two decades by society’s aspirations for secure, economic, and environmentally sound energy.  He delights in developing the nexus between the practicalities of effective public policy, the capabilities of new and emerging business, and the opportunity created by technological and institutional innovation.

Prior to joining Serious Materials, he co-founded Next Energy, a Sydney-based adviser to government, industry and environmental organizations on energy policy and strategy, often delivering on that advice with operational and project management services.  Examples of innovative successes include an ongoing, multi-jurisdictional program for local governments to improve street lighting, now representing over 225,000 lights; a four year program to collect and recycle tens of thousands of highly inefficient second refrigerators; and successful advice to a state government on economic alternatives to developing a relatively high emissions new coal power plant.  Robin was formerly Project Director & Fellow at the United States Congress Office of Technology Assessment where he advised the Congress on competition in the electricity market, energy efficiency initiatives in the federal government and housing sectors, vulnerability of electricity systems to terrorism and natural disaster, and nuclear industry issues.  Prior to that, he was with the Pacific Gas and Electric Company in their demand management and strategic planning groups.

Dr Roy received a Ph.D. - Civil Engineering, MS - Engineering-Economic Systems and BS - Electrical Engineering from Stanford University.
